Bequest / Gift in Your WillA bequest is the most popular and simple way to leave a legacy. A bequest can be included in a new will or added to an existing one. Bequests are usually a dollar amount or a percentage of the estate that is transferred to the Nickel District Conservation Foundation after the donor's death. This type of donation reduces estate taxes.
Publicly Traded SecuritiesSecurities can be transferred (during your lifetime or in your will) to charity. A tax receipt is then issued for the amount of the fair market value of the shares. When securities are donated to a charity, the capital gains are not subject to tax.
Life InsuranceThe Nickel District Conservation Foundation can be listed as the beneficiary of your Life Insurance Policy. This allows donors to make a bigger impact than they could during their lifetime. The estate receives a tax receipt for the amount donated and is not this amount is exempt from estate taxes. You can also donate an existing policy (or purchase a new policy) to a charity and name the charity as owner and beneficiary. This method allows for tax savings during the donor's lifetime.
RRSPsSimilar to a Life Insurance policy, RRSPs are transferred to the Nickel District Conservation Foundation when the donor’s estate is settled. The donor’s heirs avoid income and estate tax.
